The Joint Terrorism and Political Violence Business Underwriting and Claims Panels met on 3 June to discuss current market issues and ongoing wording work. Members reviewed progress on the Active Assailant wording and agreed that a previous joint underwriting and claims session should be repeated later in the year. A significant discussion focused on Iran/Middle East exposures, including the challenges of distinguishing state-backed terrorism from acts of war, the limitations of potential wording amendments, use of RUB-style territorial exclusions, claims handling considerations and premium allocation to risk codes. Updates were also provided on the proposed process for determining whether war clauses are triggered, and on forthcoming data centre briefings and exposure management work. Under AOB, members discussed drop-down clauses in excess layers, amendments to terrorism definitions, claims reserving and late notification issues, wider market engagement, and current panel membership vacancies.
