Joint Renewable Energy Underwriting Committee – 02 June 2026

The Renewable Energy Sub-Committee reviewed industry developments, wording initiatives and market challenges. The committee received an update on the DNV Offshore Wind Course, which had been rescheduled to May and had achieved the minimum number of participants, with further promotion planned to increase attendance. Members welcomed Sophie Irvine as the new co-chair and discussed progress across several sub-groups, including work on an obsolescence clause, a statement of values clause and issues surrounding series loss provisions and market wording consistency. Claims discussions highlighted significant hail losses in the US and Saudi Arabia, emphasising the need for regular natural catastrophe model updates and clearer policy language regarding “affected locations”. Members also debated ongoing ambiguity between excesses and deductibles, broker practices, market education needs, and transparency concerns in the subscription market where some platform features restricted visibility of lead market participation. The committee encouraged continued engagement in working groups and professional development activities to support market improvement and collaboration.
