Joint Hull Committee – 14 July 2026

Members reviewed the evolving situation in the Middle East, focusing on challenges affecting marine operations in and around the Strait of Hormuz. Discussions covered navigational risks, potential transit levies, sanctions considerations, vessel detention risks and the implications of prolonged vessel delays on hull exposures and salvage capabilities.

The Committee noted a legal update covering recent judgments relevant to war risks and causation, with discussion centred on the interpretation of direct and indirect causation language. An update was also provided on industry claims activity and market engagement initiatives, including feedback from the GMICC conference and opportunities to encourage greater participation from emerging professionals. Working groups reported progress on navigating limits, JH143, yacht-related projects and the review of LMA5403, including consideration of cyber spoofing, jamming and related cyber exposures.
