The Terrorism and Political Violence Committee represents and promotes the interests of the writers of this class of business in the London market. Founded in 2005, the committee consists of elected Lloyd’s underwriters who deal with terrorism, sabotage, strikes, riots, civil commotion (SRCC), insurrection, war and other politically motivated violence.
The committee addresses shifting global threats, including terrorism, SRCC and war-related exposures. It supports the market through the production of model wordings and helps to assess the evolving risk landscape.
The committee provides specialist input to Lloyd’s on SRCC coverage and contributes to the development of the new market Event Definition System (EDS), ensuring political violence risks are accurately captured, consistently classified and appropriately responded to across Lloyd’s reporting and oversight framework.
The LMA Academy’s Foundation for Underwriting Terrorism Insurance programme provides foundational knowledge for junior underwriters wanting to learn more about this class of business. The programme, developed by this committee, covers core concepts, market practices, wordings and global risk trends.
India’s evolving regulatory environment presents both opportunity and complexity for Lloyd’s underwriters. The committee supports underwriters in navigating these regulatory frameworks by facilitating market discussion and liaising with Lloyd’s India.
The T&PVC helps to develop and issue LMA wordings for use across the market. To receive email notification of new wordings, please subscribe.
